A new technology roll out can be a big investment. New point of sale, new KDS, or anything new can be complicated and mistakes are easily made. We see it all the time. Some of the top 5 mistakes are easily avoided if you know what to look for. When taking the plunge into a new technology solution, be sure to watch out for these 5 common mistakes when implementing new technology.

  1. Not finding the right partners: Partnerships are everything. If you find the right one, your technology solution will be a match made in heaven. Find the wrong one and even the best solution might be deemed a failure. Find someone that will deliver the best solution and product for your business, but also one that will align with your business’s values.
  2. Taking on too much: As the saying goes: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. By establishing an incremental rollout for your technology, not only do you ensure the technology is embedded in your business, but you truly figure out what your business needs as the technology makes its impact.
  3. Not getting product ownership: Assign the success to someone in your business that has the authority, time, budget, and buy-in. By getting the right people at the helm of the ship, new roll-outs can be painless.
  4. Not investing in training: You’re already making an investment in new technology. Absorb the expertise that the vendor is able to deliver by fully embracing training or the professional services that they may offer.
  5. Not following through with the technology: You’ve made the decision to change your technology. Embrace the changes that come with the system instead of running immediately back to “what you know”. Oftentimes, the changes will make your life easier.
