First Johnny Rockets, now Ruby’s Diner.

The 1950s-themed Ruby’s Diner is testing a table-top ordering system at a new restaurant in Downey. Newport Beach-based Ruby’s Restaurant Group said the Downey location, which opened March 1, is equipped with touch-enabled iPads at each table. The digital menus allow customers to order, split tabs, pay the bill, and search for Ruby’s promotions.

The Downey restaurant, a franchise location, is piloting the program, said Mark Lyso, chief operating officer of Ruby’s franchise division.

“The goal is to test the table top ordering technology at the brand new Ruby’s Diner in Downey; depending upon the results, we would ideally like to expand the system to other (35) Ruby’s Diner locations where appropriate,” he said in a statement.
